Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Thomas Frank as head coach

Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Thomas Frank as new head coach after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. The team has also secured Justin Cochrane as his assistant.

Spurs and Frank agreed terms following the departure of Ange Postecoglou and the team contacted Brentford earlier this week to hold talks regarding compensation and staff.

Tottenham are also said to be interested in appointing Cochrane, who Brentford wanted to keep and had admiration from elsewhere — but he decided to join Tottenham.

Who is Cochrane?

Cochrane is regarded among the most promising coaches in English football. He is also said to remain a part of the national team set-up on a part-time basis under Thomas Tuchel, after being appointed in February.

The 43-year-old spent almost a decade as a youth coach at Spurs earlier in his career and has worked for the past three seasons with Frank.

Three members of Postecoglou’s backroom staff, Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery, Ryan Mason, and Sergio Raimundo, left Spurs with the Australian but his former assistant, Matt Wells, and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch remained at the club.

Ryan Mason joined West Bromwich Albion as head coach before the 59-year-old’s dismissal.

Cochrane managerial career

Cochrane began his professional coaching career at Spurs, first joining the club in 2009 when he was still a player in the National League and spending the next nine years in their academy.

On leaving Tottenham, he worked for three years in England’s youth set-up, coaching the national team’s Under-15, U-16 and U-17 sides, and also spent a year working in Manchester United’s academy before joining the Bees.
