Inter’s Chivu makes bold statement ahead of debut at Club World Cup

Cristian Chivu has formally assumed the center stage as the new head coach of Inter Milan.

From UCLA, the team’s Club World Cup training base, the former Inter defender described his goals, intentions, and great attachment to the club.

What fuelled Chivu’s Inter mission?

Though he may be unfamiliar to the top post, the former left-back has long history at Inter.

Seven years at San Siro were followed by recent years guiding youth teams from the U14s to U19s.

“I was already the coach of a team in the Youth Sector,” the gaffer told the press. “This club gives you the push to do something special.”

He stressed his emotional connection with the club: “The sense of responsibility is great. I’ve been here 13 years—with a little pause—but I’ve always been here.”

The manager’s stance regarding the Club World Cup?

The former Romania international is ready for his first test: a Club World Cup match against CF Monterrey.

He continued: “We must honour this competition. It’s a unique moment for global football. We’re here to do our very best.”

What is at stake for Inter Milan?

The Nerazzurri face Mexican side Monterrey in the Romanian’s first formal game.

He remarked: “We studied on video. They’ve changed coach, probably made some tactical tweaks. They play vertically and have good individuals.

“Let’s not forget the team’s journey. They eliminated Bayern and Barcelona.

“Failure is when you make excuses or look for alibis,” he ended. “I haven’t seen anyone here pointing fingers.”
