Latest Manchester City signing Rayan Cherki has wasted no time in registering his disdain for city rivals Manchester United with the 21-year-old Frenchman admitting he cannot wait for the game “to kill them” next season.
Why does Rayan Cherki hate Manchester United?
Cherki was part of an Olympique Lyonnais squad that suffered a brutal last minute elimination at the hands of Manchester United in the quarterfinals of last season’s UEFA Europa League. Despite helping his side to a two goal lead in extra-time, Cherki watched on from the sidelines as the Red Devils scored thrice in the last seven minutes of the game to produce one of football’s greatest ever comeback.

Rayan Cherki signs for Manchester City, seeks revenge
Having completed a £30.9 million move to Pep Guardiola’s eight-time Premier League champions, Cherki is counting down the days until he can exact his revenge on Manchester United.
The French international will surely get a chance to best United at some point next season as both teams will at least face off twice in the Premier League. City failed to beat United last season despite the Red Devils’ poor form and Cherki appears to be relishing the prospect of helping the Citizens re-establish their dominance over their neighbours.
Rayan Cherki’s message to Manchester United
“I didn’t like it when Manchester United won the game versus Lyon because I am Lyonnais,” Cherki said. “And now I wait for the game [against United] to kill them.”
While Cherki obviously cannot wait to play against Manchester United, the 21-year-old will also be looking to take advantage of the ongoing Club World Cup to leave a lasting impression on both Guardiola and Manchester City fans.
