Kompany lauds Bayern’s maturity in CWC win over Boca Juniors

Vincent Kompany was impressed by the level of maturity shown by his Bayern Munich side in a hard-fought 2-1 win over Boca Juniors in their second group stage game of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

The Bavarians were made to sweat for their victory after talisman Harry Kane saw his first half opener cancelled out by Boca Juniors’ Miguel Morientiele midway into the second half of the game.

It took a late strike from Michael Oliseh to secure the win for Vincent Kompany’s men and book an early spot in the round of 16 with one game to spare.

Reacting to the win, Kompany, who was satisfied with his side’s performance, praised the Bundesliga champions for holding their nerves despite Boca’s equalizer.

“We had to work a lot today but we got the job done – we’re in the last 16 and I’m really pleased about that,” he said.

“You saw how tough it is for European teams to play against South American sides. I think we did it really well.

“We controlled the emotions in the game. Yes, we conceded a goal but we stayed calm. And the way we saw the game out was very mature. Overall it was a solid performance.

“The atmosphere was just unbelievable. If you’re not here, you can’t comprehend it but when you’re in the middle of it, it’s an experience, a privilege.

“We’re happy to have started the tournament with two wins.”

With the win over Boca Juniors, Bayern became the first European team to defeat a South American opponent, avoiding the same fate as Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea who fell short against Botafogo and Flamengo respectively.
