Kepa Arrizabalaga set to join Arsenal in surprise transfer move

Arsenal are getting closer to signing Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

After the 30-year-old added an extra year to his contract last summer, the Gunners will activate his £5 million release clause this week.

The shot-stopper is planning to move to Emirates Stadium for a new challenge after dazzling on loan last season at Bournemouth.

As Arsenal tries to solidify between the goalposts, he will battle directly with David Raya for the top shirt.

The change was needed when Arsenal missed the opportunity to officially sign Neto. Last year, the Brazilian was not kept after The Cherries decided against his loan.

The Spaniard is still the most costly goalie in history. The Blues acquired him from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for an all-time £72 million.

Across a seven-year rollercoaster tenure at Stamford Bridge, he won four major trophies in 163 appearances for the Blues.

Winning La Liga and the Champions League in 2023–24, he also had a season-long loan at Real Madrid.

He now gets ready to begin a new chapter in North London.
