Brentford appoint Keith Andrews as Thomas Frank’s successor

English Premier League side Brentford have announced the appointment of set-piece coach Keith Andrews as the successor to Thomas Frank.

Andrews had joined the Bees’ coaching staff last summer, initially as a set-piece coach and has now been promoted to replace Thomas Frank, who left the club after seven years earlier in the month to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

The opportunity marks a first managerial role for the 44-year old, who had previously worked with Sheffield United, MK Dons and the Republic of Ireland national team.

Speaking in his first interview as Brentford’s boss, Andrews said: The ceiling is massive in terms of what we can achieve.

I don’t know where to start in terms of what’s exciting me because there’s so much: the potential of the football club, the potential of the players and the potential of the staff that underpin what has brought success to this brilliant football club.”

The former Republic of Ireland international has penned a three-year deal at the club, and is tasked with taking over from Frank, who had overseen the club’s promotion into the top flight in 2021.

Andrews’ impact was evident on the team’s performances last campaign, with the Bees scoring 13 goals from set-pieces in the league.

“We want to play winning football, we want to be competitive, we want to have an edge, we want to play dynamic, relentless football but we want to be organised,” he added.

“We want to have huge moments, huge games, and I think the big one is that we want to have an attitude and a relentlessness of progression. We really need to maintain that, and that’s on a daily basis.

There will be a clear plan to try and develop our talented young players and also our older players, because development doesn’t just stop when you get to a certain age”, the 44-year-old concluded.

Brentford begin life without Thomas Frank in the English Premier League next season, starting their campaign away at City Ground against Nottingham Forest on the 17th of August.
