Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an heartfelt tribute following the tragic demise of Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident at the age of 28.
Signed from Wolves, Jota became a significant player during Klopp’s Liverpool years and left a legacy. In 182 games, he scored 65 goals and was instrumental in Liverpool’s FA Cup and EFL Cup victories in 2022.
With Arne Slot’s Liverpool winning the league in the Dutchman’s first season following the German gaffer’s departure, he contributed six more Premier League goals last year.
The 58-year-old manager, seldom talks publicly since leaving the club, broke his silence on social media to pay tribute to the player he once termed as “fearless and ruthless.”
“This is a moment where I struggle,” the German wrote.
“There must be a bigger purpose but I can’t see it. I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother Andre. Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father.”
His last message featured a final expression of grief and support: “We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them!”
Both on and off the pitch, Anfield powerhouses and the bigger football community keep mourning the sudden death of one of the most beloved forwards in the game.
