On Saturday, Liverpool players gathered in Portugal to honour Diogo Jota’s family at the funeral of the cherished attacker and his brother, Andre Silva.
Jota, 28, died in a car accident in Spain with Silva after the Lamborghini they were travelling in caught fire. Early Thursday morning saw a suspected tyre blow-out follow the accident.
Only eleven days before the accident, the Portugal international had wed his long-time sweetheart Rute Cardoso leaving behind three children and his wife.
As mourners sobbed and cheered, their caskets were brought inside the church to the tune of a sombre bell.
Along the church steps were throng. Some embraced silently. As the procession entered the edifice, others stood in stunned grief.
Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, attended the gathering. Leading a big team of colleagues, Captain Virgil van Dijk paid his respects.
Darwin Nunez, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Joe Gomez stood by the bereaved family along with Andy Robertson. That was a uniting moment.
