Nigeria’s Nnadozie opens up on decision to join Brighton

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has opened up on her decision to leave Paris FC as she embarks on a new challenge at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Nigeria women shot-stopper left the French side after five years, where she gained prominence as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

She joined Paris FC in 2020 from River Angels and made over 100 appearances for the club, providing assured displays in goal in the league and UEFA Women’s Champions League matches and played an instrumental part as Paris defeated city rivals Paris Saint Germain in the Coupe de France final last season.

“Like I always say, Paris is like my second home. I spent five seaons there and they welcomed me so well,” Nnadozie told reporters in a recent interview.

“I feel like one of them but it’s time to move on, I found a new home and hopefully it’s going to be a better home.”

The 24-year-old will join her new teammates after her participation at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco with Nigeria.

Nnadozie, who is hoping to win a first continental title with Nigeria, is however confident of achieving success with Brighton, who compete in the Women Super League side.

“I’ve not been there already but all the Nigerian fans in Brighton are sending me messages they can’t wait to receive me.

Nigerians are plenty in United Kingdom so it’s going to be a good one”, she added.

Seagulls manager Dario Vidosic also spoke highly of the Nigerian international, expressing his confidence in her abilities.

“She’s a talented and commanding goalkeeper who will bring consistency and confidence to our defensive line.

We’re confident she’ll add both depth and drive to a squad already full of ambition as we continue to build for next season”, he said.
