Luis Enrique admitted it was difficult to accept Paris Saint-Germain ‘s Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea but maintained it was all part of top-level football.
Speaking after the 3-0 loss at MetLife Stadium, the PSG manager accepted the result with grace.
“I think we played a very good tournament,” the gaffer informed PSG TV. “But we weren’t able to take home the trophy. We’re disappointed—it’s not easy. But that’s sport at the highest level.”
The Blues’ quick start proved too far, and Enrique had no criticisms about the result. “They played very well and deserved to win. We accept that.”
Now that the long season is over, the Spanish coach advised staff and players to relax. He went on to say, “Now it’s time to enjoy our holidays.”
He also paused to express gratitude to Ligue 1 champions’ devoted supporters, whose energy filled the arena in spite of the loss. “Our supporters were incredible. They support us every game. That connection is very strong.
“We will continue to get stronger. That’s our goal,” he ended with a note of tenacity.
