Jordan Henderson excited at EPL return with Brentford

England international Jordan Henderson has expressed delight after his return to the English Premier League with Brentford.

Henderson, 34, secured a return to England just two years after first leaving, when he joined Brentford on Tuesday after he was released by Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.

The midfielder who spent 12 successful years at Premier League champions Liverpool, joined Saudi Premier League outfit Al Ettifaq in controversial circumstances in 2023.

His time in the Middle East was short-lived when he left after just few months, joining Ajax Amsterdam in January 2024 on a short term deal.

“I’m delighted that I’m here; I’m very excited to get started and get going, I’ve always had huge admiration for the club and what they’ve achieved over the last few years, in particular, how they’ve grown as a club”, Henderson stated.

“I’ve been told how organised and well-run the club is, it’s very family-oriented, which I think is very important. When I spoke to Phil Giles, Lee Dykes and Keith, I just had a really good feeling about everything. As soon as I had that conversation, it was clear for me that I wanted to come here and it was an easy decision in the end.”

Henderson has signed a two-year deal at the Bees, keeping him until 2027 and is expected to replace Denmark international Christian Norgaard, who secured a move to Arsenal.

“When I spoke to Keith [Andrews] a few times, he was very good and very honest, and he’s excited to get started as well.

He was another big reason why I wanted to come and try to help the club keep moving forward”, he continued.

The 34-year old will hope to feature regularly for Brentford next season, as he looks to make Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
