Former Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has sent a message of hope to AC Milan fans after putting pen to paper on an initial one-year contract to become the Rossoneri’s latest summer signing.
Modric has officially closed the chapter on his incredible 13-year journey at Real Madrid, sealing a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after Los Blancos’ FIFA Club World Cup semifinal defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last week.
In that time, the Croatian maestro collected an astonishing 28 trophies, including five Champions League titles, more than any other player in Madrid’s history. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner became a symbol of consistency and class, racking up 597 appearances for Los Blancos.
Only Karim Benzema, with 515 games, managed to join him in the exclusive 500+ club during Modric’s era at the Bernabeu.
His next destination? It was never much of a secret. New AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri had already hinted that the Croatian skipper was on his way, expecting the veteran midfielder to join on a free transfer before August.
Now it’s official. After signing a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months, Modric has set his sights on bringing glory back to the iconic San Siro.
“I’m very happy to be here at a great club like AC Milan to start a new chapter in my career. I can’t wait to see you all at San Siro,” he told supporters on Instagram.
“We hope to make you happy and give you many wonderful moments this year, to make you proud of us and celebrate many victories together. A big hug to everyone!”
Modric, who will wear the number 14 shirt for AC Milan, may get the chance to pull on the Rossoneri jersey for the first time when their pre-season games kick-off next week.
