Former Ivorian international Kolo Toure has become Manchester City full first-team assistant coach.
Under Pep Guardiola, the Ivorian was closely associated with the Under 18s and was engaged with the senior team throughout pre-season.
Toure’s coaching stints with Celtic and Leicester City as well as his playing years at Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool bring with him great experience.
Director of Football Hugo Viana of City complimented the hire and stressed Toure’s worth outside as well as on the field.
“We’re delighted to permanently add Kolo to our first-team coaching staff,” Viana remarked. “He brings immense experience from the highest level and a deep understanding of the club.”
The 44-year-old’s previous position with City’s Under 18s was commended for his leadership and tactical skills, which aided the growth of many academy stars now striving for first-team places.
Viana remarked that his involvement will assist in reinforcing the link between the Academy and senior team.
During their Club World Cup preparations and summer matches, Guardiola and the crew were much impressed by his energy and enthusiasm.
Along his coaching career, Toure has also collaborated with Pep Lijnders and James French, therefore providing a wide spectrum of premium training knowledge for his profile.
Particularly as more native talents move up the ranks, the Cityzens feel his constant presence would provide more unity and continuity.
The ex-Wigan Athletic gaffer’s appointment brings another layer of knowledge to a highly effective coaching staff as City prepares to defend several crowns once more this season.
