Lucas Vazquez bids farewell to Real Madrid in emotional tribute

Lucas Vazquez officially said goodbye to Real Madrid, thus concluding a remarkable 17-year trip with the team in an emotional farewell ceremony at Valdebebas.

The veteran winger joined the junior academy in 2007 at just 16 and leaving as one of the most decorated players in Madrid history. With 23 trophies under his 402 first-team appearances, he is sixth most successful player in the history of the club.

Leading the farewell, President Florentino Perez gave Vazquez the esteemed gold and diamond badge. He applauded the Spaniard for his devotion, modesty, and never-ending work ethic.

“Dear Lucas, you must feel very proud of the affection you will always receive from all Real Madrid fans,” the Los Blancos remarked in his opening tribute. “You have been an example of what a Real Madrid player should be. An example of work, sacrifice, dedication, commitment, camaraderie, humility, and respect.”

He added: “A caring player who has put the team before personal interests. You represent the defense of the badge above all else.”

Along with Honorary President Pirri and Director of Football Santiago Solari, the Spain international was surrounded by contemporary stars like Kylian Mbappe, Marcelo, and Lunin during the event. The shot caught the great respect he gained over ten years with the senior team.

The 78-year-old businessman continued: “You joined Real Madrid when you were just 16, and you grew up and developed there, playing for the U19s and Castilla , the team with which you won the Second Division B title and promotion to the Spanish Second Division in 2012.

“Today marks the end of a period that has made you one of the club’s greatest legends. Because after winning 23 titles this decade, you are the sixth player with the most titles in Real Madrid history.”

With emotion, Vazquez responded: “I’ve fulfilled my life’s dream at the biggest club. It’s one of the most important days of my life. I want to thank the fans for their constant support.

“I’ve had the privilege of winning titles, sharing a dressing room with legends, and experiencing unforgettable nights. I’ve been very happy; I’ve felt valued, respected, and loved,” he added.

“I sincerely thank President Florentino Pérez for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream. Your trust in me has allowed me to become the player and person I am.

“Thank you to my parents for their daily efforts. You taught me that giving up is never an option. Thank you, brother, for passing on your passion for football to me,” he remarked.

“And to you, Maca, you appeared at a crucial moment and have always been there. You have given me the most beautiful thing in the world: our children. Lucas, Maca, and Benji, you are my greatest pride. I hope that one day you will understand what wearing this shirt meant to your father.

“I’m leaving with a clear conscience. I’ve given everything I had. I’ve fulfilled my lifelong dream at the biggest club in the world. There’s no greater pride. I’m leaving, but Real Madrid will always be with me. I am and always will be Lucas Vazquez , a Real Madrid youth player,” he concluded.

The event ended with a family shot showing his whole trophy collection—an appropriate picture for a player whose legacy will inspire next generations at the club. The 34-year-old departs as more than a champion; he also represents the ideals of the Galacticos.
