Wayne Hennessey has formally retired from playing professional football.
The 38-year-old goalie started his path in the Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers academies. At Wolves, where he made more than 150 appearances and played a pivotal role between the sticks, he ultimately broke through.
Burnley and Crystal Palace were among his next assignments. Most recently, he played Premier League football for Nottingham Forest.
On the international stage, the Welshman also stood tall. With over 100 caps for Wales, he established himself among the most consistent shot-stoppers in the country.
Having amassed years of experience and many important saves, Hennessey exits the game as a well-known figure in both club level and international football.
His resignation signals both the end of an age for Welsh football and the finish of a consistent, successful career.
