Atletico Madrid have officially signed Argentine Thiago Almada from Botafogo. The 24-year-old has agreed to a five-year agreement with the La Liga titans.
Almada brings creativity, vision, and adaptability to Diego Simeone’s team. He can play on either wing or work as an offensive midfielder. On both feet, his ability offers him transition and build-up flexibility.
The midfielder appeared 100 times following his breakout at Velez Sarsfield before moving to Major League Soccer team Atlanta United in 2022. There, he scored 26 goals and had 24 assists in 83 games.
His constant performances earned him a call-up to Argentina’s senior national team. In a friendly victory against Honduras under Lionel Scaloni, he made his debut in September 2022.
The former Lyon loanee also played for the legendary Argentina team that triumphed in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022.
He joined Brazilian powerhouse Botafogo in 2024. He made sure the club won the Copa Libertadores and league championship that season. His performances earned him a winter loan move to the French outfit, where he impressed during the second half of the season.
With the Madrid side, he now makes a big leap to the highest level of European football. Fans at the Wanda Metropolitano will be excited to see what he brings to the table in red and white.
