Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that the club followed all correct processes with regard to Thomas Partey, who was recently charged with several counts of rape and sexual assault.
Former Gooner Partey is charged with one count of sexual assault with three women and five instances of rape. The reported events occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Although arrested in July 2022, the Ghanaian was not identified publicly and kept playing for the Emirates Stadium heavyweights as inquiries persisted. Charges were brought just four days after his June 30th contract with the club came to end.
“The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case,” the gaffer told Sky Sports News.
Speaking during Arsenal’s preseason trip in Singapore, Arteta responded to the circumstances.
“The club was very clear in its statement,” remarked the Spaniard. “There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”
The accusations state that two rape counts involve one woman, three relate to another, and one count of sexual assault regards a third woman.
Scheduled to appear at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, the Ghana international denies all allegations.
