Kenny Dalglish praises Slot’s impact as Liverpool prepare for new season

Sir Kenny Dalglish supports Arne Slot to have another excellent season at Liverpool having had a “brilliant” first year in charge. With four games to go in the 2024–25 season, the Reds claimed their 20th league championship under the Dutch.

Knowing the pressure and renown of guiding Liverpool to triumph, Dalglish admired Slot’s composed and deliberate manner. The club icon, presently with the squad in Hong Kong for pre-season, noted Slot’s management and eye for talent.

“The boys did a real turn last year,” the Scot revealed to the club media.

“Arne coming in, first year, it was a big year as well for him. He was brilliant the way that he just had a good look at the boys.

“He brought in a goalkeeper who has now signed [Giorgi Mamardashvili] and I think [Federico] Chiesa was the only other one he actually bought for the squad.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili completed his move to Liverpool ahead of the 2025/26 season, joining from Valencia as the gaffer’s first major signing.

The 74-year-old added: “He has got off to a brilliant start and he has given everybody a fair chance and has had a look. He has got one or two ideas that obviously have resulted in transfers now. So, I’m looking forward to this season and how it goes. It was fantastic what he did last year.”

As Slot tries to expand upon the solid basis set in his first campaign, the Premier League champions’ supporters will be very careful viewers. Expectations are high once more at Anfield with a championship team and a few of significant new players.
