Brighton & Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson has ended a season-long loan to AS Roma.
The deal contains a £34.7 million ( €40 million) purchase option that would enable the Serie A outfit to make the move permanent the following summer.
The Republic of Ireland international was on loan at West Ham United during the latter part of last season. After making 80 appearances and scoring 17 goals overall, Ferguson leaves Brighton.
The Seagulls’ manager Fabian Hurzeler commended the Irishman’s readiness and recovery. The head coach observed that the forward had gone through “a challenging period” owing to repeated injuries but is now healthy and ready to play normal minutes.
“Evan is over those injuries and has come back in great shape. This is an exciting opportunity in a strong league and with the prospect of European football,” Hurzeler remarked.
Looking to improve their offensive possibilities, Roma view Ferguson as a long-term investment. Brighton sees an opportunity for their young striker to get top-level experience.
As the club continues to support his long-term potential, the English top-flight outfit will be watching closely his growth in Italy.
