Arsenal secure Swedish goal machine Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal have finalized the signing of Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres after the long-term arrangements have been made.

After two amazing seasons in which he scored 97 goals in only 102 games, the 27-year-old’s goals aided Sporting in reclaiming a national cup as well as back-to-back Primeira Liga championships.

On the worldwide scene, Gyokeres also made a name for himself. Having scored 12 goals in his previous 17 matches for Sweden, he highlights his persistent threat in front of goal.

For the north London outfit, who have been looking for a clinical forward to lead their line, the decision is a significant success.

“We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyokeres to the club,” remarked Andrea Berta, the Sporting Director. “Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level centre-forward. His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision.

“We are confident Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and become an important figure in our dressing room. Welcome, Viktor,” he concluded.

Mikel Arteta also spoke on the forward’s move: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyökeres to the club. The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves.

“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goal-scoring numbers at club and international levels. He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.”

He added: “We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him. We welcome Viktor and his family to Arsenal.”

Gyokeres will don the legendary number 14 jersey, which club icon Thierry Henry formerly wore.

For their men’s preseason trip in Asia, he is slated to join the team right away.

The Emirates giants have significantly boosted their attacking front before the new season with this decision. Fans will be keen to witness the Swede apply his unrelenting work rate and merciless finishing to the Premier League.
