Luis Diaz nears Liverpool exit after “improved” Bayern bid

Want-away Colombian forward Luis Diaz is closing in on a summer exit from Liverpool after suitors Bayern Munich reportedly tendered an “improved” bid to the Premier League champions.

Diaz was left out of the Liverpool squad that faced AC Milan in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, with head coach Arne Slot later revealing the decision was made due to the speculation swirling around him.

Diaz has been the subject of relentless transfer speculations this summer after catching the eye during Liverpool’s Premier League winning 2024/2025 campaign with Barcelona and Bayern Munich touted as interested suitors.

Barcelona caused quite a buzz around the Colombia international earlier this summer when the Spanish club’s sporting director Deco openly admitted their admiration for the winger as well as Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.

The Blaugrana have since acquired the services of Rashford, who was in truth, a cheaper alternative to Luis Diaz. Now Bayern have ramped up efforts to secure Diaz’s signature despite Liverpool’s initial reluctance to part ways with the forward.

After seeing an opening bid worth £58.6 million rejected by the Reds earlier this month, the Bavarians returned with an improved offer worth £65.6 million according to reports from Sky Sports news.

Vincent Kompany’s side have now managed to reach full agreement with the 20-time Premier League champions over a transfer for Diaz with the English club granting permission to the 28-year-old winger to travel for medicals.

Diaz will sign for the Bundesliga champions on a four-year deal with the option to extend for another year. The Colombian forward will bolster the wide areas for Bayern, filling up the gap left by Leroy Same who joined Galatasaray earlier in the summer.
