Como chief responds to Lionel Messi transfer speculations

Como president Mirwan Suwarso has dismissed ongoing speculations linking the Serie A club with a potential summer swoop for Inter Miami’s legendary Argentine forward Lionel Messi.

Como were THE surprise packages of the 24/25 Serie A campaign. Despite only just gaining promotion from Serie B at the time while being managed by a relatively inexperienced Cesc Fabregas, I Binacoblu cruised to a top half finish in the Italian top flight and recorded some pretty impressive results along the way.

In preparation for the upcoming season, they have been one of the busiest Italian teams in the transfer market. Como are aiming for an even better 25/26 campaign and as such are looking to recruit top tier footballing talents, a category Lionel Messi falls into, this summer.

Rumors of Messi being a target for Como first emerged when his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo and their children were spotted at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Como manager and Messi’s longtime friend Fabregas was simply hosting them, but his coy response, “Never say never,” only fueled speculation.

Those whispers intensified when Messi appeared unsettled at Inter Miami, reportedly “extremely upset” over his MLS suspension for skipping the All-Star Game. With his contract in Miami expiring in December, doubts about his future began to grow. Still, despite the buzz, Como are not in the race for his signature.

“It would be a dream if he came here,” Suwarso told La Stampa over the weekend. “But why would he leave a team where he earns all that money? We haven’t had any contact.”

While a move for Messi is not on the cards, Como are reportedly working on the potential arrival of experienced Spanish striker Alvaro Morata from AC Milan. I Biancoblu have already splurged over €100 million in transfer fees this summer.
