Young Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens has shared his thoughts on the possibility of joining Manchester United from Royal Antwerp this summer amid ongoing speculations of a potential transfer.
Manchester United are thought to be highly keen on a change of personnel between the sticks as avoidable goalkeeping blunders from both first and second-choice goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir contributed to a disaster season last term.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, a relatively unknown Lammens, who enjoyed something of a standout campaign at Royal Antwerp last season, has now emerged as one of the targets being considered by the cash-stripped Red Devils.
In a recent interview with Belgian outlet Gazet van Antwerpen, the 23-year-old shot-stopper shared his thoughts regarding a potential big move coming in his near future.
“Manchester United are one of the best clubs, yes. But you never know. It could also be a different club, or who knows, I might stay [at Royal Antwerp],” Lammens said.
“In any case, I try to keep my feet on the ground. When teams like that come along, I think you’ve earned it.
“I certainly have enough confidence in myself. I think the most important thing is that my future team, whenever they arrive, has a plan in place.
“Ideally, that means playing immediately, but it’s also possible I’ll have to take a step in between. As long as there’s a plan, it doesn’t matter whether I’m ready for the next step or not.
“Everyone has their own career, their own path. Even if I don’t take the right step right away, I’ll get there.”
Asides Lammens, Manchester United are also known admirers of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. But the Villans are unwilling to part ways with the Argentine and will command a premium in transfer fees.
While Lammens offers potential and long-term value, Martinez guarantees instant impact courtesy of his many years of Premier League experience. It is expected that Man United will land at least one of the two keepers before the summer window shuts.
