Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has confirmed that the squad remains fully supportive of manager Ruben Amorim despite his difficult start to life at the club.
The Portuguese joined the club last November but has endured a poor start to his Old Trafford career, with the team finishing in 15th position last season. The Red Devils also suffered their worst league campaign since the 1973-74 season, ending with just 42 points from their 38 matches.
Ugarte, who joined Man United at the start of last campaign from Paris Saint Germain in a deal worth up to £50.5 million, believes the team is fully behind their manager.
“We have to improve things,” Ugarte said. “We have matches to prepare for. We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants and that is very important.
Last year we made some changes, we changed our coach, we changed our formation. This year I am good, I am very excited. It is important to perform well in this club, with United”, he continued.
Bruno Fernandes scored a brace to lead the Red Devils to a 2-1 win over West Ham United in the opening match of their preseason tour of the United States last weekend.
“You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. I am very happy and we have to keep going”, the Uruguay midfielder added.
“Sometimes the connections take time to get to know each other. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important.”
Manchester United are up against Bournemouth in their next preseason match, before ending their tour of the United States with a clash against Everton.
