Hojlund ready to fight for spot at Manchester United

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has revealed his desire to stay and fight for a place in the team despite the club’s pursuit of a new striker.

The Denmark international has struggled to make an impact since moving to Old Trafford from Atalanta in a £72 million deal in 2023, facing criticism for his inconsistent displays.

Man United’s search for a new striker, with links to the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins, has also sparked rumors of an exit for the 22-year-old.

“I think the most important thing for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we’ll see what happens,” Højlund said.

“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens. Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me.

I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team”, he continued.

Højlund scored the opener in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the early hours of Thursday, as the Red Devils continued their Premier League Summer Series campaign with a second straight victory.

Further goals from Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and Ethan Williams capped off a memorable display, with a Matthijs De Ligt own goal the only blemish.

“I’m still very young, I think people forget that sometimes. I’m only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals by the age of 22. But I’ve learned a lot, I think you can see in my game”, he added.

“I’m starting to develop and become even better in the basics. Now it’s just about for me to sharpen myself and I’ve done very well in the preseason so far.”

Manchester United round off their impressive United States tour with a match against Everton on Sunday, before facing Fiorentina on August 9 in their final preseason fixture.
