Juventus general manager Damien Comolli has slammed Tim Weah and his entourage for their ‘disrespectful’ handling of the winger’s proposed move to Marseille while defending the position of the Serie A club.
Earlier this week, Weah’s representative, Badou Sambague, publicly criticized Juve, accusing the club of showing “total disrespect.” He expressed frustration over the treatment of the USMNT star, who opted out of his nation’s Gold Cup plans to remain available for Juventus’ Club World Cup campaign, only to play just 45 minutes.
Sambague alleged that a senior figure within the club deliberately sabotaged Weah’s tournament and attempted to pressure him into a move of their choosing despite the forward’s clear preference for Marseille. However, Comolli has come out to debunk the accusations.
“We deserve respect, we give respect to everyone,” the club chief seethed to Sky Italia. “The players are being looked after, no one is being pushed aside.
“When you come out strongly and say I want to join one club, and only one club, you need to make sure that club backs you up. If that club doesn’t back you up, what do you do? You are in a corner and have nowhere else to go. You said very loud that you only want to go to Marseille, but what happens if Marseille is not there for you?”
“The player wants to go to Marseille, but in soccer you can’t choose a team because if the right offer doesn’t arrive, you stay on the sidelines. And the offer hasn’t arrived yet.”
Weah joined Juventus from Lille in the summer of 2023 and has since made 78 appearances, notching 13 goal contributions. The American forward is now keen on taking his talent elsewhere after falling out with The Old Lady.
