CHAN 2024: Prize money and all you need to know

The 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), dubbed PAMOJA 2024, promises a thrilling showcase of African football talent, exclusively featuring players based in the continent’s domestic leagues. 

This edition stands out not only for the potential on-field excitement it promises but also for a host of historic developments that add prestige to the competition.

For the first time ever, CHAN will be co-hosted by three nations with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda welcoming the rest of the continent in a first of its kind East African affair. 

Matches will hold across Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kampala and Nairobi from 02 to 30 August 2025.

In a major boost, CAF has announced a 75% increase in prize money for the winners, who will now walk away with $3.5 million. The total prize pool has also grown by 32% to $10.4 million. To top it off, it will feature the unveiling of a brand new trophy.

The tournament kicks off with Tanzania facing Burkina Faso in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, 02 August at 8pm local time (5pm GMT).

It promises to be a fierce competition as continental heavyweights like Senegal, Morocco, DR Congo, Nigeria, Algeria and Zambia battle for glory. Meanwhile, debutants Central African Republic will look to make a strong impression in Group B.

What the Groups look like:

  • Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
  • Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
  • Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, South Africa
  • Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

The third-place playoff will take place on August 29 in Kampala, with the final set for August 30 in Nairobi. With tickets on sale and fan zones active, CHAN PAMOJA 2024 promises to be an exciting celebration of African football.
