Midfielder Tyler Morton has permanently moved from Liverpool to Olympique Lyonnais in a contract that might reach £15 million.
Having joined Liverpool’s academy at just seven years old, the 22-year-old midfielder departs Anfield after 14 senior outings.
The Reds have negotiated a 20% sell-on clause in the agreement for the England U21 international, who contributed to the Young Lions winning the European Championship this summer.
Morton’s chances under Arne Slot were anticipated to be constrained notwithstanding his promise. He was pushed more down the hierarchy by the comeback of Stefan Bajcetic and the emergence of James McConnell, Luca Stephenson, and Trey Nyoni.
Particularly Nyoni excelled throughout pre-season and is now seen as a full-time first-team player.
The Merseyside-born player spent two seasons on loan in the Championship, showing excellent performances at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.
His performances drew Europe-wide notice. Lyon, however, made the defining move and signed a long contract for a player hoping to shine in Ligue 1.
While Liverpool continues their midfield reconstruction under Slot, Morton now begins a fresh chapter in France.
