Manchester United defender Leny Yoro believes the club will learn from last season’s setbacks and bounce back stronger in the upcoming campaign.
The Red Devils finished the league season in 15th position and suffered further heartbreak in the UEFA Europa League final, losing by a lone goal to Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
It was their worst-ever league finish since the 1973-74 season, while the 42 points they accrued was the lowest since suffering relegation to the lower tier in the same campaign over 50 years ago.
The 20-time league winners enjoyed a hugely impressive preseason tour of the United States, claiming victory in the Premier League Summer Series over the likes of West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton.
ICYMI: De Ligt calls for fresh start at Man United after dismal season
“When you play for Manchester United, you need to have the mindset of being the best version of yourself,” Yoro said.
“I think what we did last season was a mistake for us. When you’re Manchester United, you cannot be at this position. The fans know it, everyone knows it. I think we understand this.
This season will be different for us. It will be like a revenge from last season. We need to do better”, the Frenchman continued.
Ruben Amorim’s side have added Mattheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to their ranks with talks ongoing on a potential move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
With no European engagements in the coming campaign, Yoro believes the Red Devils head into the season with much determination to improve on their performances.
“We are a big club,” Yoro added. “There are a lot of people that want us to fail and we know that. But there are also a lot of people that want us to do it, to do great things. We just focus on the fans, you know.
We don’t care about what they say outside, about the media, everyone said bulls— about us last year.
But I understand because we didn’t do really well. This season will be different, I hope for us. We don’t need to listen to this and just be focused on ourselves”, he concluded.
