Hugo Ekitike sets Liverpool target ahead of upcoming season

Liverpool new boy Hugo Ekitike has outlined his targets for the upcoming season after making his Anfield debut in a 3-2 pre-season friendly victory over Athletic Club on Monday.

Ekitike set up the opening goal in the second match of a friendly doubleheader against Athletic Club, delivering a precise pass to Mohamed Salah, who calmly slotted it home. Liverpool went on to win both fixtures, netting a total of seven goals across the two games.

After the match, the lanky Frenchman reflected on the assist and shared his expectations for both the team and himself as they gear up to defend their Premier League crown. “I enjoyed it a lot, it was such a good atmosphere for a first game for me,” Ekitike said of his first Anfield experience.

“I feel proud and I just wish I will play so many games in this stadium because it is amazing. We have some little things to fix to get better. Even me with the ball, I knew I could do better today. But I really enjoy playing with them and I’m sure we’re going to make really good things this season.

“We have a group of competitors, we want to win everything. We’re going to give 100 per cent I’m sure. I’m sure about this. And me also, I’m going to give 100 per cent to win because I’m here to win.”

Ekitike joined Liverpool earlier this summer in a deal worth £79 million (€91.5 million) from Eintracht Frankfurt. Alongside the Frenchman, the Reds have also added the likes of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez to their ranks.
