Liam Delap’s Chelsea career may be just two months old, but the striker has already made a big impression.
Since joining from Ipswich Town on the eve of the Club World Cup, the 22-year-old has scored goals, provided assists, and lifted silverware.
His debut cameo against LAFC saw him set up Enzo Fernandez, and he netted his first Blues goal in the 3-0 win over ES Tunis. By the end of the tournament, Delap had a medal in hand after Chelsea’s emphatic win over Paris Saint-Germain.
“It was really good to score my first two goals at Stamford Bridge,” remarked the forward. “As a striker when I’m on the pitch, it’s what I’m thinking about, and to come off the pitch with goals in any game is a good feeling.”
The former Ipswich man admits his Chelsea start has been “quick and fast” but calls it “incredible.” He credits the squad’s support and the time spent together during the Club World Cup as key in helping him settle in.
The Blues have looked sharp in pre-season, beating Leverkusen and Milan with a blend of intensity and creativity. The Englishman believes the team is well prepared to start the Premier League campaign strongly against Crystal Palace.
He added: “We did everything right and we can go into Crystal Palace looking forward to it. Stamford Bridge is a special stadium and to have the first game at home is a nice feeling. Hopefully, we can get three points.”
For the striker, the focus now is on keeping momentum and consistency as Enzo Maresca’s men aim to carry their winning form into the league.
