Robert Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, insists the Poland international has no plans to quit Barcelona this summer amid persistent interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The Saudi Pro League has managed to lure several players away from Europe, with older and younger players alike, finding the offer of riches available in the Middle-East impossible to resist.
This is not the case for Lewandowski though, as the Polish international has turned down the chance to play in the Saudi Pro League despite being offered an unbelievable amount for his services.
“This is his place on earth, where he feels most comfortable,” Zahavi told Fakt.
“Besides, clubs in Saudi Arabia are overflowing with players; they don’t know what to do with them. There are limits on the number of foreigners allowed, which limits their options. But Robert didn’t want to play there anyway.
”A year ago, he received a concrete offer. They offered him more than €100 million per season. Per season! But he preferred to fight for La Liga and the Champions League. And he almost achieved both goals.”
Despite Lewandowski’s current stance, the experienced Pole is expected to leave Barcelona when his contract with the club expires next summer.
However, it remains unclear if the former Bayern Munich striker will give the Saudi Pro League a chance, take his talents elsewhere or perhaps, even consider retirement.
For now though, Lewandowski remains committed to Barcelona’s cause but could be forced to sit out the opening rounds of fixtures as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Barcelona will begin their LaLiga title defense on Saturday, August 16 with a trip to Estadi Mallorca Son Moix where Mallorca will be hoping to upset the champions on opening day.
