Liverpool are currently in talks with have Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi. An offer is already in place for the England international but an agreement is yet to be made on the player’s side. One of the demands made by the player is assurances over game time in a World Cup year.
If he doesn’t move this summer Guehi is expected to leave as a free agent in the summer of 2025 when his contract expires as he has no intention of signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.
Newcastle United were keen on the player in the summer of 2024, with Palace rejecting four offers.
Palace chairman Steve Parish said after the club’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool that Guehi could have to be sold this summer.
“We’d have to (sell if a good offer came in),” Parish said when asked what Palace would do if they received a favourable offer.
“For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem. We had one bid (last summer) but Joachim (Andersen) went (to Fulham) and we couldn’t afford to lose both defenders.
“We had another bid in January but that was a difficult situation as well. The player had a point of view on that one. We’ll have to see what happens but it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.
“As far as people being here or not being here, if it’s the right decision for the club and for them — nobody can make anyone go — then there will be some changes, but we have to make smart ones.”

Liverpool have only two fit central defenders with Joe Gomez currently sidelined. Captain Virgil van Dijk recently signed fresh terms with the club but there remains uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future with only a year left on his contract.
Arne Slot’s side also lost Jarell Quansah, who joined Bayer Leverkusen in a £35 million deal last month, and are yet to replace him.
Last season’s Premier League champions have been busy in the transfer market bringing in Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
There is still ongoing interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni. Guehi progressed through the Chelsea academy and joined Palace in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth around £18m ($23.9m). He has gone on to make 155 appearances for the south London club.
The defender has been a key figure under Oliver Glasner and captained Palace to their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City at Wembley in May — the club’s first major trophy.
During his time at Palace, Guehi has become a mainstay in the England squad, making 23 appearances for his country and playing a key role in their run to the final of the 2024 European Championship.
When asked about his future in August 2024, Guehi told the BBC: “I’m really grateful to the club (Palace). This club gave me the opportunity to play in the Premier League, something so many kids dream of.
“For them to stick by me and have the belief in me is amazing, giving me the platform to develop and express myself.”
