Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has commended striker Richarlison, after his heroics in Saturday’s 3-0 over Burnley in the English Premier League.
Spurs bounced back from an agonizing penalty shootout loss to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek, with a comprehensive win over the newly-promoted side in their league opener.
Richarlison, 28, struggled with injuries in the previous campaign which cost him a place in the starting spot to Dominic Solanke and has been linked with an exit from North London this summer.
However, the Brazil forward got the nod to start ahead of his English teammate and rewarded his manager’s faith with an inspiring performance.
“Fantastic he is scoring. The first one is definitely easier to score without being easy, but I have a striker that takes those two chances and helps us win the game,” Frank said after the match.
“He deserves a lot of praise. He was very good against PSG and today he was exceptional, with his work-rate, driving the team, link-up play, hold-up play, just dominating and then the two finishes.
So happy on his behalf and again, performance department, medical department did a top job to build him”, he added.
The Brazilian opened scoring in the 10th minute with a brilliant attempt after an assist from Mohammed Kudus to give Spurs the lead.
Richarlison then scored a goal-of-the-season contender, delivering an exceptional acrobatic finish to fire in from another Kudus’ cross to put his side two goals up.
Europa League final hero Brennan Johnson added a third for Tottenham, as the Thomas Frank era began with an impressive win.
“Second goal 17 passes in the team I have been told, every player touched the ball and finished with two top actions.
First from Mohammed Kudus and then second, an exceptional finish by Richarlison. I’m a little disappointed that so early we have goal of the season — but must be a contender”, Frank continued.
