Everton manager David Moyes has backed Jack Grealish to rejuvenate his career after enduring a difficult spell at Manchester City.
Grealish, 29, sealed a season-long loan deal to join the Toffees last month having being deemed surplus to requirements by City manager Pep Guardiola.
He joined the Cityzens in a record £100 million deal in the summer of 2021 and despite initially becoming a pivotal part of the squad, fell out of favor with injuries and inconsistencies limiting his game time.
The England international made only seven English Premier League starts last season and was left out of the club’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Speaking ahead of the clash against Leeds United in their league opener on Monday, Moyes acknowledged the on-loan Man City star’s quality and is confident of his ability to succeed.
“The knowledge that he thinks he’s got a little bit to prove and to stand up”, the Everton boss said when asked about the marquee signing.
“I’ve had to do that myself. I’ve had to come back from being knocked down. Sometimes you have to have that resilience to bounce back, to fight back and to show everybody. I just sense Jack is carrying that with him now.”
Grealish is set to make his Everton debut in the club’s 2025/26 EPL opener against Leeds United on Monday.
The 29-year-old joins a host of other new additions including Carlos Alcaraz, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and goalkeeper Mark Travers.
“I hope it shows through this season because, if it does, then we’ll get a lot of good things from Jack”, Moyes added.
The Toffees travel to Elland Road on Monday before hosting Brighton next Sunday in their new stadium.
