Rashford waxes lyrical about “influential” Barcelona star

Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford has labelled new teammate Lamine Yamal “the most talented” 18-year-old in world football.

Rashford’s admiration for Yamal is little secret as the England international openly praised the young Spaniard and expressed his hope to one day alongside him on the pitch.

Well, the England star got his wish after transferring to Barcelona on loan from Manchester United earlier in the summer and his impression of Yamal’s talent is even stronger.

The teenage phenom opened his account for the 2025/2026 season with a stunning effort, curling a mid-range shot into the top-left corner in Barcelona’s 3-0 LaLiga win over Mallorca on Saturday.

Rashford, who made his competitive debut for Barca in that match, coming on for the final 25 minutes, he was stunned by Yamal’s quality. For the Englishman, only one other player could’ve come close to having the same level of impact at 18.

“He’s the most talented player I’ve ever played with for his age,” said Rashford, as reported by ESPN. “I haven’t played with, or seen, anyone with the impact he has on the game. Maybe Ronaldo Nazario.

“To have that influence on the pitch at such a young age and on such a consistent basis is incredible. He has a long career ahead of him, and I hope he maintains his level and even improves.

“He’s a top talent, a top player. The most surprising thing is how mature he is for his age, how he thinks and plays. He’s way beyond his years. It’s exciting to play with him, and with others too.”

Yamal is currently one of the top contenders to win the Ballon d’Or after helping Barcelona to a domestic treble last season as well as playing a key role in their Champions League semi-final run.
