Alonso makes Kylian Mbappe observation after Real Madrid’s LaLiga opener

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has highlighted how Kylian Mbappe appeared rejuvenated during Los Blancos’ first game of the season against Osasuna, pointing to his sharper intensity and improved influence on the pitch.

Last season, the French forward delivered an impressive 44 goals across all competitions but was still criticized for failing to fully click with Vinícius Junior, while Madrid’s rare trophyless campaign further cast a huge shadow over brilliant debut season.

Alonso, who marked his La Liga debut in charge with a narrow 1–0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, saw Mbappe strike the decisive goal, his first since taking over the iconic No. 10 shirt vacated by Luka Modric.

According to Alonso, the jersey number seems to have given Mbappe a new lease of life, with the forward showing signs of being the driving force Madrid had hoped for all along.

“After the first year, I think he wants more,” Alonso reflected. “I don’t know if it’s because of the number or his ambition to win, but it’s noticeable.

“You do feel that he wants to be able to perform better as an individual and inspire those around him. His desire is evident every day, and today he created these different plays that are decisive.”

Real Madrid weren’t their majestic best on the night and that could easily be attributed to their brief pre-season preparations. Nevertheless, they dug in deep enough to grind out the narrow victory and begin their campaign on a positive note.

As the season goes on, Los Blancos faithfuls will be hoping to see much better signs of improvement from Alonso’s men. Improvement is a must if Real Madrid are nursing any hopes of going toe-to-toe with arch rivals Barcelona this season.
