Arsenal have completed the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £67.5 million.
The Gunners will pay a guaranteed £60 million for his signature and another £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons for the England international.
Mikel Arteta’s side hijacked the move from North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who had also agreed a fee with Palace for the transfer and were favorites to land the 27-year-old.
In a twist of events, Eze agreed to join the Gunners and agreed a four-year deal keeping him at the club until 2029, with the option of a further year.
He was unveiled ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Leeds United on Saturday, and will wear the club’s number 10 jersey.
“He is a powerful and exciting player who will give us a new dimension in our attacking game. What stands out just as much as his talent and intelligence as a player, is the way he has worked hard throughout his career to get where he is today”, Arteta hailed the new signing.
“His journey, his mentality and his ambition are exactly what we want in our team, and we love how much it means to him and his family to be joining our club.”
Eze rejoins his boyhood club where he began his youth career before moving to QPR, and becomes Arsenal’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have also added the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Victor Gyokeres to their squad this summer, as they look to compete for the league title after three successive second-place finishes.
Victor Gyokeres (2), Jurrien Timber (2) and Bukayo Saka were on the scoresheet as Arsenal began their canpaign with two straight wins with a comprehensive 5-0 win over newly-promoted Leeds United on Saturday.
