West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has apologized to fans after his post-match conduct following the 3-2 defeat to Wolves in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
The Hammers dismal start to the 2025/26 campaign continued after they were eliminated from the second round, following defeat to their Premier League rivals at the Molineux.
After the match, Bowen and his teammates went to the visiting stand to applaud the fans before things got heated.
The England international got into an altercation with a fan and attempted to confront the supporter before he was stopped by teammates.
“Apologies to the fans for tonight’s reaction. I’m someone who is passionate and will fight every time I step on the pitch. But I need to set a better example and you fans know how much I love you and this club!
We ride through the bad times together and I’ll see you all on Sunday”, Bowen wrote on Instagram after the match.
West Ham had began their 2025/26 season with a shock 3-0 defeat at newly-promoted Sunderland in the English Premier League.
Manager Graham Potter’s misery was compounded following last Friday’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Chelsea, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the league standings.
The Carabao Cup offered some sort of redemption, as a victory would have eased the early season pressures.
Rodrigo Gomes put Wolves ahead two minutes before the interval and Tomas Soucek equalized for the Hammers five minutes into the second half.
Brazil playmaker Lucas Paqueta scored in the 63rd minute to put West Ham in the lead and on course for a first win of the season, before substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen netted twice in three minutes to seal the win for the home side.
Wolves will find out their opponents in the next round on Wednesday, while West Ham United turn their attention to the league as they face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
