Gittens opens up on Chelsea debut and his love for football

Jamie Gittens described getting goosebumps as he prepared for his first competitive game at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea colours.

The young winger opened up in the club’s matchday programme, speaking about how important it is for him to always keep football fun.

The summer signing joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund and has quickly settled into life in London. He admitted that playing Premier League football feels like a dream fulfilled.

“I’m so happy to be on the pitch,” he said of his return to English football. “I was getting goosebumps in the warm-up and stuff. I was like a little kid stepping on the pitch.

“It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of doing because I’m from here… and to play for Chelsea is even bigger.”

Gittens already feels at home in the squad, having built strong connections with several players through England youth teams and his time at Manchester City’s academy.

His career choices have always been bold, but he insists that his love for dribbling and attacking defenders will never fade.

“Our job is to take on our man and create something,” he explained. “Whether that’s crossing the ball or combining with a team-mate in the box, or going one-on-one. You’ve got to create chances for the team, by passing, making runs in behind, just mixing it up a little bit.

“I don’t know why, but since I was young I’ve always liked to go one-on-one. It’s been my thing to do. I get a little thrill from it.”

The 20-year-old’s fearless approach and passion for attacking play could make him a vital figure for Chelsea as he begins his Premier League journey.
