Liverpool manager Arne Slot was impressed with his side’s performance following their hard-earned 1-0 win over title rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
The win means the Premier League champions are the only side left in the league this season with a perfect record, after securing three wins from three matches.
The Reds continued their title defense with Sunday’s narrow win over Arsenal, following a 4-2 win over Bournemouth on opening day and another 3-2 win over Newcastle United last Monday.
“Mentality”, Slot remarked after the win. “Having to bring quite a lot of new players in because quite a few left.
And then if you have to start the season against Bournemouth who were last season already really good and this season again already on six points.
Arsenal lost William Saliba to injury just four minutes into the clash, as the first half ended goalless with both sides taking pragmatic approach to the tie.
Cody Gakpo scored early in the second half after David Raya spilled a shot from Florian Wittz, but the strike was ruled out as the Dutchman was well offside in the buildup.
With the game heading towards a goalless scoreline, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai produced the game’s best moment with a stunning effort from 30 yards out.
The Hungarian fired in a brilliant freekick which flew in past Raya off the post, to give the Reds the deserved lead.
“Then you play Newcastle away, which is for every single team in the league one of the most difficult away games. And then Arsenal at home, which is definitely one of the three for the most difficult games of the season, and then already doing what we are doing. We’re not perfect”, he added.
“We weren’t perfect last season by the way as well, but still what you can see is a great mentality and everybody wants to work so hard to get a result over the line.”
