Donnarumma excited for new era at Manchester City

Newly signed Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has expressed complete delight at joining the eight-time Premier League winners after completing a deadline day transfer from French and European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma’s relationship with Paris Saint-Germain soured over the summer and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City swooped in to offer the Italy international an escape route. The Cityzens parted ways with a €35 million fee to acquire his services following the long anticipated departure of Ederson Moraes.

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma told club media after completing his move.

“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by the one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.

“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years—so to now be able to play for the Club is a huge honour and a privilege.

“I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, the staff and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me. I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”

Donnarumma was part of a PSG squad that enjoyed domestic and European dominance, winning the Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League crowns. In fact, the towering Italian shotstopper singlehandedly ensured progression for Les Parisiens in the knockout rounds of the UCL against Liverpool and Arsenal.

Hence, it came as a shock to many when news surfaced earlier in the summer that the former AC Milan goalie was now deemed surplus to requirements at the Parcs des Princes by Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique.
