Barcelona are reportedly reconsidering their summer move for Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford and the Spanish champions could well be looking to cut ties with the forward sooner than expected.
Rashford witnessed a rapid decline in his relationship with his boyhood club Manchester United, following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach midway into the 2024/2025 season.
He spent a considerable amount of time banished from the first team before finishing the rest of the season on loan at Aston Villa. While at Villa Park, the undoubtedly talented forward showed signs of a resurgent form and impressed enough to earn a summer move to Barcelona.
Rashford’s move to Barcelona came in the form of a season-long loan that could eventually become a permanent move if the Blaugrana decide to exercise an option to purchase for around £30 million.
However, it appears that things aren’t going according to plan in Catalonia and the England international could well be sent back to Manchester United as early as the January transfer window as per reports from Manchester Evening News.
Reports claim Barcelona’s hierarchy have been unimpressed with Rashford’s impact since his arrival and are now considering cutting his stay in Spain short.
The 27-year-old forward has featured in three La Liga games for Barcelona, making two substitute appearances. But he hasn’t managed to produce any decisive contributions with no goal or assist recorded in 94 minutes of La Liga action so far.
Interestingly, the contract agreement between Barcelona and Manchester United includes a clause that allows for an early termination, though it would require the La Liga champions to pay a £4.3m penalty.
A final decision will be taken in the coming months, meaning Rashford must raise his performance levels if he hopes to avoid a premature return to Old Trafford where he clearly has no future.
