Alexis Mac Allister has set his sights on inspiring the next generation of footballers, just as he was inspired growing up watching the Premier League.
The Argentina international has already written his name into history after lifting the World Cup in 2022 and securing a league title with Liverpool last season. Since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, the midfielder has shown the same commitment that now defines his career.
“When I was younger, there weren’t many Argentinians in the Premier League but I used to wake up very early in the mornings to watch players like Carlos Tevez and Maxi Rodriguez,” Mac Allister told GQ. “I was a big fan of the Premier League, so I hope the next generations are doing the same with us, not just with me but with Argentinian players in general.”
Mac Allister is determined to give his all each game, with no thought of holding back ahead of major tournaments.
He continued: “To play in a World Cup is really special. I had the opportunity to play in one and we won it, which is not easy at all. [It] was in the middle of a season so this one [next summer] is going to be different.
“But I don’t think about the future. I know some players worry about getting injured before the World Cup, but I don’t think that way. I always say that you have to go 100 per cent every single game.”
Looking ahead, the midfielder understands the scale of the challenge as Argentina prepare to defend their crown.
“It’s not going to be easy [to defend the World Cup] because there will be a lot of good teams, really good players and we understand it’s not easy to win two in a row.
“But we hope the next one is a big one for Argentina as well, and that we can defend the trophy and win another one. That’s the mentality we have – we always want more.”
Away from the pitch, Mac Allister is preparing for a life-changing moment as he and his partner expect their first child.
“It sounds funny, but I really like football – for me it’s my passion and the only thing I really enjoy… until now because [my girlfriend and I] are having a baby girl,” he said.
He revealed that teammates Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai have been offering advice as they too step into fatherhood.
“It’s nice because we are in another part of the world from our families so we need that help. [Having a daughter] is going to change my life for sure. I’m really looking forward to that.”
Mac Allister shared his reflections as part of the launch of Liverpool’s new adidas third kit for the 2025-26 season, which was officially unveiled and released for sale on Tuesday.
