Former Leicester City manager Steve Cooper appointed as Brondby head coach

Former Nottingham Forest and Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has been appointed as Brondby’s new head coach.

The Welshman has signed a three-year deal with the Danish Superliga side.

Cooper, 45, last coaching role was with Leicester, where he was sacked by the club in November 2024 after just five months in charge.

Despite interest from other clubs in Europe, some in the Championship, Cooper sees Brondby as a great challenge and a club with the potential to qualify for European competitions, as well as an opportunity to win trophies.

Cooper began his coaching career at Liverpool in 2008 before spending time with England’s youth setup and Swansea City, taking the Forest job in 2021.

Brondby, who finished third in the Danish Superliga last season, were knocked out of the UEFA Conference League by Strasbourg over two legs last month.

“Steve is that rare combination of youth and experience, vision and personality,” said Brondby’s director of football Benjamin Schmedes.

“He is a man who can embrace a club like ours and lift both the individual player and the entire club to a new level.”

Brondby are the second-most successful side in Denmark, with their 11 league titles being bettered only by FC Copenhagen’s 15 triumphs.

Cooper’s new side, who have won four and lost three of their opening seven league games of the new season, will return to action against last season’s Superliga champions FC Copenhagen.
