Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City share spoils in 1-1 at Adamasingba

Ikorodu City held Shooting Stars SC to a 1-1 draw in Sunday’s Southwest derby at Lekan Salami Stadium. Both sides, yet to record a win this season, displayed early determination to ease tension among their fans.

Sodiq Ibrahim opened the score sheet for the hosts in the ninth minute, rifling a powerful strike from distance into Ikorodu’s net to hand his side an early advantage.

Ikorodu’s Kelechi Onwe almost equalised in the 34th minute: his glancing header beat goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal but was whisked off the line by a defender.

Shola Adelani’s left footed strike put the visitors back in the game on the stroke of half-time. Despite tactical substitutions from both sides, the encounter eventually ended in a stalemate.

At the end of the encounter, Shooting Stars head coach and former Ikorodu City coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, said his side had planned to win convincingly but were left disappointed after another frustrating draw.

Aweroro added that the team showed improvement compared to their first home game, but must return to the drawing board for further adjustments and improvements.

Ikorodu City’s Coach, Bright Ozegbagbei, praised his players’ spirited response to conceding early, which resulted in their equaliser shortly before half-time, keeping them competitive in the contest.

He stressed that the league season remains young, noting that there is still enough time to work on the squad for stronger performances in upcoming fixtures.

Shooting Stars currently sit 15th on the table with two points from three games, following a 1-0 defeat to Bayelsa United on opening day and a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance. Ikorodu City sit two places above the hosts with three points.

Both sides will return to action on Sunday when Shooting Stars travel to Rivers United and Ikorodu City host newly promoted side, Barau FC.
