Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany remains wary of the potential threats newly promoted Hamburger SV could pose, even though the visitors enter this weekend’s Bundesliga clash as underdogs.
The Bavarians have launched their Bundesliga title defense in style, winning their opening two games and emerging as early favorites, especially after stuttering starts from Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig.
Bayern kicked off the 2025/2026 season in style by subjecting Leipzig to a humiliating 6-0 defeat before following up that statement win with a much more nervy 3-2 victory over Augsburg just before the international break.
Following the resumption of club football this weekend, Bayern and Kompany welcome old foes Hamburger SV to the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
The history of this fixture heavily favours the Bavarians as the last eight games between the sides at the Allianz Arena have seen the home side net 50 goals, winning by margins of 6-0, 8-0, 5-0, 8-0, 3-1, 9-2, 5-0 and 6-0.
WhileBayern boss Vincent Kompany acknowledged his side will be favourites to triumph in Saturday’s clash, he remains wary of the dangers their newly promoted visitors could potentially pose.
“For us, we are always the favourites when playing at home,” Kompany said at his pre-match press conference. “But every game has its dangers as teams want to win points against us. I have nothing to do with this past.
“It is a match against a team with a lot of confidence and motivation, following their promotion. They won a lot of matches last season. You always carry that from the second division when you are promoted.”
This reunion of the old Nord-Sud-Gipfel rivals in the first division of German football promises to be an exciting encounter for both sets of fans.
