Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has acknowledged that the team has undergone significant changes and must evolve to catch up with their rivals in the league.
The former Premier League champions endured a disappointing campaign last season, ending the season without a major trophy after completing a four-peat haul of the English Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s squad has undergone significant changes, with new faces coming into the side for several members of the treble-winning squad, who have left the club.
The Spaniard’s coaching staff has also been reshuffled, with Pep Lijnders and Kolo Toure replacing the former assistant coaches who had also left the club.
“A lot of important people left so new people have to come in and make a difference and people that have been here for years like me have to take more responsibility”, Haaland revealed.
“We need to help each other. We need to understand that the past is the past and we’re not the same team anymore, we have to use it in a positive way and we have other qualities now, so we have to adapt.
In the end, the most important thing is we have to win games”, he continued.
The Cityzens have lost two of their opening three matches this season and must defeat neighbors Manchester United on Sunday, to keep their title hopes alive.
They failed to win both league matches against the Red Devils last season for the first time since the 2020/21 season.
“What’s sure is City has to win things. We have to win games and we have to fight for titles. That’s what we have to do”, the Norwegian added.
“We have to perform. Say what you want, but we have to win games in the end. That’s what we get paid for. I try to do everything I can and I try to help the team as much as possible.
“No matter how the situation is, if you win every single game or lose every single game, you still have to try to be free in your mind. It’s something I still have with me now”, Haaland concluded.
