Moises Caicedo says Chelsea are ready to embrace the return of Champions League nights as they prepare to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening.
The Ecuadorian midfielder was close to being the match-winner in the 2-2 draw against Brentford, with his thunderous late strike only denied by an injury-time equaliser.
“I knew what I was going to do,” said Caicedo. “I was just thinking about shooting on goal. I did it and it was a great goal. I am going to keep going to help the team.”
Chelsea showed resilience in west London after falling behind, but Brentford’s aerial threat and direct play caused problems. Caicedo admitted the Blues had to work hard to stay in the game.
“Brentford play their football, putting the ball in the box, so it’s difficult. We tried to do our best but sometimes that happens. The reaction of the team was good – we needed to be patient and that’s why we could come back into the game.”
The Ecuador international also praised the influence of Cole Palmer, who returned from injury and swung momentum in Chelsea’s favour.
He added: “He[Palmer] changed the game. We are happy to have him again.”Despite frustration at dropping two points late on, Caicedo insists the squad’s focus has already shifted to Europe.
“We are not happy because we didn’t win, but we are just thinking about Wednesday. For sure we are disappointed with the result, but now we have another game on Wednesday and we focus on that now. Everybody is going to be ready.”
