Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche is confident in his ability to succeed with Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.
Uche, 22, joined the Eagles on transfer deadline day, on an initial loan deal that includes an obligation to buy in the summer of 2026.
The 22-year-old started on the bench as Palace’s unbeaten start to the season continued in last Saturday’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park against newly-promoted Sunderland.
The Nigerian international came on in the 84th minute of the match for his EPL debut and was a handful for the defenders for the short time he spent on the pitch.
He had an effort on goal brilliantly saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, who displayed a player-of-the-match performance to prevent the hosts from scoring.
“I would say the game is good, but it’s not the result we wanted,”
“We tried to put all the work, but it didn’t work out, but nevertheless we keep working every day to get it right”, he said after the match.
“The fans are good. I heard ‘Uche, Uche’! That’s what motivated me more, because for me I play with fans. I play with everybody. Once the fans trust in me, I will give everything 100 percent.
The club expects Uche to fill huge boots and replace England international Eberechi Eze, who departed for Arsenal earlier in the summer.
The Super Eagles star also had good words for his new manager Oliver Glasner after his debut.
He continued; “He said that I should go in there and make it right. I’m seeing him. He’s a great coach and he believes in me. I have to go inside and give my best.
“I believe in myself so much and I believe once I’m on the field, I’ll make something that will surprise everybody, because I believe in myself.
“It doesn’t matter when you put me [on], I will play, so once I enter today, I have a feeling that I will make something change. It didn’t come today, but hopefully next game it will come”, Uche concluded.
